THE NEW BUCKY LAB

As you already noticed a lot of news are published about the bucky lab within our blog the last months. The bucky lab is a first semesters master course conbined out of students from architecture and building technology from the TU Delft. The course is set up out of different courses including design, material science, CAD courses and structural engineering.

Each semester the students will develop, engineer and at the end, also build an architectural related prototype in 1:1, mostly but not always facade related.

From this semester on Marcel Bilow will be in charge for leading the course, which was lead by Peter van Sweeten the last 15 years. Not only the leader changed but also the courses set up is about to change a bit.

In the future the bucky lab will become mobile. This means the whole workshop including, tools and materals will be housed into boxes and is able to travel. We will build fewer and bigger prototypes, that will last longer, beeing mobile also enables us to be more flexible, so a bigger variety of materials and technologies can be used, so we might directly build in a concrete production plant or within a composite manufactoring plant to build the prototypes.

In this semester we will develop the cases to get the workshop mobile, beside that we will also develop the next prototypes in this case only on paper but who knows ….will be build maybe in the next semester…

So stay alert!  maybe we are able to visit you the next time to build some innovative prototypes.

If you are interested in supporting the bucky lab let us know, maybe your ideas or products will enhance our thoughts.

“Out of the box thinking” will now also include “Out of the box production”
